Trans people are under attack across the country, and neutrality is no longer an option. If you want to be in solidarity with trans and nonbinary community members but feel unsure of what to say or how to show up, this is your starting point.

This foundational training will teach you the core terms and affirming language that help trans people feel seen and respected. You will learn which terms are outdated or offensive, and how to engage respectfully across identities and experiences. We welcome all of your questions and promise to meet them with boundaries, clarity, and care.

This training is designed for LGBTQIA+ and non-LGBTQIA+ people alike, especially those who are new to trans allyship and want to learn in a nonjudgmental community space.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the differences between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and gender expression
  • Understand common terms and experiences: pronouns, dysphoria, social transition, deadnaming, etc.
  • Gain fluency in the language of the transfeminine, transmasculine, and nonbinary spectrums
  • Identify outdated or harmful language and what language to use instead

This training prioritizes:

  • Warmth and Grounding: Held in home-like, welcoming spaces that center comfort, accessibility, and connection
  • Shame-Free Learning: Space for real questions, boundary-setting, and loving corrections
  • Relational Process: Emphasis on presence over performance and listening over fixing
  • Reciprocity and Access: Tiered pricing, service trades, and “pay it forward” options

Location: This training will take place at a kind neighbor’s lovely home in Saugerties, NY. Address will be emailed to to registrants.

Pizza, seltzer and tea will be provided!
